Background:
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the motion to extend unpaid leave of absence for Julius Tatum, Equipment Worker.
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION: The Department of Public Works & Engineering requests City Council to approve a motion to extend the unpaid leave of absence for Julius Tatum, Equipment Worker, Employee #155499, beginning February 27, 2016 and continuing until July 24, 2017.
Mr. Tatum has a medical condition that has prevented his return to duty since August 31, 2015. On May 16, 2017, the department recommended that Mr. Tatum be medically separated. Mr. Tatum requested no accommodation or job search be initiated. Mr. Tatum has been approved by the Municipal Civil Service Commission for two 90-day unpaid leaves of absence from August 31, 2015 through November 28, 2015 and November 29, 2015 through February 26, 2016.
In accordance with Code of Ordinances 14-172, any further unpaid leaves of absence must be approved by the City Council. Therefore, the department requests that City Council approve an extended unpaid leave of absence from February 27, 2016 through July 24, 2017. The Civil Service Commission approved a medical separation for Mr. Tatum effective July 25, 2017.
