Pursuant to Section 34-22 of the City of Houston Code of Ordinances, I am very pleased to appoint Art Acevedo as Chief of Police, subject to Council confirmation. His resume is attached for your review.
Chief Acevedo has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience and for the past 11 years, served as Chief of Police for the Austin Police Department (APD). In his tenure with the department he was lauded for his commitment to community policing and engagement, accountability and public safety. Chief Acevedo is a strong leader and I have no doubt he will bring an extraordinary energy, optimism and dedication to the Houston Police Department.
Chief Acevedo will be available to meet with each of you prior to his confirmation, which will appear on the November 30, 2016 agenda.
