SUBJECT: Motion to extend unpaid leave of absence for Brandon Davis, Utility Worker.
RECOMMENDATION: (Summary) Approve the motion to extend unpaid leave of absence for Brandon Davis, Utility Worker.
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION:
On January 6, 2016, the Department of Public Works and Engineering recommended that Mr. Brandon Davis be medically separated. Since then, a city-wide job search and a department-wide job search were conducted. However, no position was available that would accommodate his restrictions.
Mr. Davis has a medical condition that has prevented his return to work. He has used all of his sick time, FML time, vacation time and two unpaid leaves of absence that were approved by the Municipal Civil Service Commission beginning September 1-23, 2015 and September 25, 2015 and ending February 28, 2016. On August 9, 2016, the Civil Service Commission ruled in favor of a medical separation for Brandon Davis.
In accordance with Code of Ordinances 14-172, any further unpaid leaves of absence must be approved by the City Council. Therefore, the department requests that City Council approve an extended unpaid leave of absence from February 29, 2016 through August 8, 2016 for Mr. Davis. The effective date of Mr. Davis’ medical separation is August 9, 2016.
