Summary:

RESOLUTION expressing no objection to an application for non-competitive 4% Federal Tax Credits for Construction of a 154 unit  Affordable Rental Housing Community, to be located near 8606 North Main Street in the City of Houston, Texas, and to be known as INDEPENDENCE HEIGHTS APARTMENTS - DISTRICT H - CISNEROS

Background:

On April 1, 2015, City Council passed an ordinance authorizing an interlocal agreement of up to $750,000 between the City of Houston and the Houston Housing Authority for site acquisition to construct Independence Heights Apartments, a 154-unit affordable housing community located at 8606 North Main Street.

 

APV Redevelopment Corporation, an affiliate of the Houston Housing Authority, intends to submit an application to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) requesting an award of non-competitive 4% tax credits for construction of Independence Heights Apartments.  The TDHCA administers the state’s housing tax credit program, which provides federal tax credits to spur the development of quality, affordable housing.

 

In order to apply for the 4% tax credits, the developer must present a Resolution of No Objection from the governing body of the jurisdiction in which the development is located.  HCDD recommends approval of this resolution.

 

A public hearing on this resolution was held on October 5, 2016.
