| | | | | | | | Summary:
ORDINANCE approving and authorizing Amendment #2 to contract for the Texas Lifespan Respite Care Program between the City of Houston and The TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF AGING AND DISABILITY SERVICES (DADS) (DADS Contract No. 539-16-0031-00003) for the Houston Health Department; approving the acceptance and disbursement of grant funds thereunder |
| | | | | | | | Background: The Houston Health Department (HHD) requests that Council approves an ordinance approving and authorizing Amendment #2 for the Texas Lifespan Respite Care Program Contract between the City and the Texas Department Aging and Disability Services. Amendment #2 extends the term of the contract through August 31, 2017, increases the amount of funding by $112,500.00 making the total grant amount $456,750.00, thereby requiring council approval of the grant because the total award is over $400,000.00. HHD also requests council approval for the Director to accept any future amendments, if applicable, with the concurrence of the City Attorney for a period not to exceed five years. For six fiscal years, Harris County Area Agency on Aging’s Care Connection Aging and Disability Resource Center has received this funding to provide respite care through the Department of Aging and Disability Services/Health and Human Services Commission HB 802 Lifespan Respite Care program. Respite services provide temporary relief for caregivers from their daily responsibilities and gives them an opportunity to take a break from care provision. Care Connection served an average of 90 caregivers annually. The program includes the provision of respite vouchers that can be used to purchase respite services through a provider or institution such as an adult day center. Additionally, caregivers are educated about the benefits and challenges of caregiving and learn about resources and skills that can help them manage their responsibilities. |
