Agenda Item#: 23.

Summary:

ORDINANCE consenting to the addition of 231.3383 acres of land to NEWPORT MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT, for inclusion in its district

Background:

SUBJECT: Petition for the City’s consent to the addition of three (3) tracts of land totaling 231.3383 acres to Newport Municipal Utility District (Key Map No. 379N; 379P; 379S; 379T).

RECOMMENDATION: Petition for the City’s consent to the addition of three (3) tracts of land totaling 231.3383 acres to Newport Municipal Utility District be approved.

SPECIFIC EXPLANATION: Newport Municipal Utility District has petitioned the City of Houston for consent to add 231.3383 acres, located in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City, to the district.

The Utility District Review Committee has evaluated the application with respect to wastewater collection and treatment, potable water distribution, storm water conveyance, and other public services.

The district is located in the vicinity of South Diamondhead Boulevard, Foley Road, Golf Club Drive, and FM 2100.  The district desires to add 231.3383 acres, thus yielding a total of 2,350.4050 acres.  The district is served by a district plant, the Newport Municipal Utility District Wastewater Treatment Plant. The nearest major drainage facility for Newport Municipal Utility District is the Gum Gully, which flows into the San Jacinto River, and finally into the Houston Ship Channel.

Potable water is provided by the district.  By executing the Petition for Consent, the district has acknowledged that all plans for the construction of water conveyance, wastewater collection, and storm water collection systems within the district must be approved by the City of Houston prior to their construction.

The Utility District Review Committee recommends that the subject petition be approved.
