The Houston Health Department (HHD) requests City Council approval of a revenue contract with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) for the Current Population Statistics (CPS) – Laboratory Response Network (LRN) equipment. The project period is June 10, 2016 through June 30, 2017 in the amount of $575,000.00.
HHD requests City Council to authorize the Director of HHD to accept the grant funding of the contract and expend approved funding as soon as awarded and to apply for and accept supplemental awards offered by DSHS in connection with this grant, if any.
Funding from DSHS allows HHD to accelerate local public health preparedness planning and operational readiness for responding to Ebola virus and specifically to:
- Assist communities with the ability to prepare for, withstand and recover from public health incidents
- Develop, coordinate and disseminate information, alerts, warnings and notifications to the public
- Conduct information sharing in preparation for response to events or incidents of public health significance
- Prepare for adequate medical surge of a potential affected community
- Implement strategies for any potential disease, injury, and exposure control
- Conduct efficient public health laboratory testing and surveillance activity
- Purchase equipment for readiness and response to the Ebola virus disease
- Support and meet the health and safety needs of responders
