Summary:

RECOMMENDATION from the Acting Chief of Police for Extension of Injury on Duty Leave for OFFICER TERRY SMITH, for an additional 90 days from June 9, 2016 through September 6, 2016

Background:

The Acting Chief of Police for the Houston Police Department requests City Council to approve a motion for the extension of Injury on Duty leave for Officer Terry Smith.

Officer Smith was originally injured when he was shot while working on-duty on June 9, 2015.  Officer Smith sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and injury to the low back. On June 10, 2015, Officer Smith was taken off active duty for extensive medical treatment and recovery.

Officer Smith was approved for Injury on Duty leave beginning June 10, 2015.  He completed one year of Injury on Duty leave on June 8, 2016.  City Council approval is required to extend Officer Smith’s Injury on Duty leave for an additional 90 days, from June 9, 2016  - September 6, 2016, which will result in salary continuation of $8,608.24 during that period.

 

 

 

 

Amount of Funding:

Funding for this item is included in the FY2017 Adopted Budget.  Therefore, no Fiscal Note is required as stated in the Financial Police Ord. 2014-1078.
