SPECIFIC EXPLANATION: This project will convert the former HPD Property Room facility into a central warehouse that can be used by various departments. The building consists of approximately 80,000 sf and has been vacant since 2009, when HPD relocated to the new Property Room facility. Repurposing the old facility to provide a mixture of light, medium and heavy storage space provides short term and long term solutions. Therefore, the General Services Department (GSD) recommends that City Council appropriate $750,000.00 out of the General Improvement Consolidated Construction Fund to the In-House Renovation Revolving Fund (1003) for the citywide warehouse project. GSD’s In-House Renovation Group will perform the work.
The requested appropriation will fund renovation of the core infrastructure to make the building operational. As City departments identify funding and their specific storage needs, the space will be renovated to meet their requirements.
On March 21, 2016, GSD and HPD entered into a Memorandum of Understanding that outlines the roles and responsibilities of each party, and transfers management of the facility from HPD to GSD.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, installing glazing on existing windows; replacing existing entry and overhead doors; demolition of existing interior walls; renovating existing offices and toilets; installing new fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems; repairing existing mechanical system to provide adequate ventilation, and repairing existing electrical systems to provide adequate lighting for storage areas and means of egress.
