SUBJECT: Accept Work for Bearing Pads Replacement (Bents 5,9,13,17,21,25 and 29) on West Lake Houston Parkway Bridge over San Jacinto River; WBS No. N-320445-031A-4.
RECOMMENDATION: (Summary) Pass a motion to approve the final Contract Amount of $920,884.80 or 3.62% under the original Contract Amount, accept the Work and authorize final payment.
PROJECT NOTICE/JUSTIFICATION: This project was part of the Work Order Bridge Rehabilitation Program of the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to repair and rehabilitate bridges.
DESCRIPTION/SCOPE: The project consisted of the restoration of bridge supports by replacing existing bearing pads (bents 5,9,13,17,21,25 and 29) on West Lake Houston Bridge over San Jacinto River. The existing bearing pads at exterior beam of bent 25 had been completely displaced from the support and other bearing pads had been deformed and were slipping away from the supports. All bearing pads at the specified bents needed replacement. The work also included cleaning existing expansion joints, repairing damaged guard rails, and removing and restoring of concrete median. Nathelyne A. Kennedy & Associates designed the project with 150 calendar days allowed for construction. The project was awarded to NBG Constructors, Inc. with an original Contract Amount of $955,465.00.
LOCATION: The project area is generally bounded by the Kingwood Greens Drives South on the north, Kings Lake Estates Boulevard on the south and San Jacinto River on the east and west. The project is located in Key Map Grids 337K, L & P.
CONTRACT COMPLETION AND COST: The Contractor, NBG Constructors, Inc. has completed the work under the subject Contract. The project was completed within the Original Contract Time. The final cost of the project, including overrun and underrun of estimated unit price quantities is $920,884.80, a decrease of $34,580.20 or 3.62% under the original Contract Amount.
The decreased cost is a result of the difference between planned and measured quantities. This decrease is primarily the result of an underrun in various Base Unit Price Items and Extra Unit Price Items, which was not necessary to complete the project.
