S06-S25695 – Approve the purchase and installation of fitness equipment in the amount of $40,084.75 from the State of Texas Procurement and Support Services Contract for the Houston Police Department.
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION:
The Chief of the Houston Police Department and the City Purchasing Agent recommend that City Council approve the purchase and installation of fitness equipment in the amount of $40,084.75 from the State of Texas Procurement and Support Services Contract through the State of Texas Cooperative Purchasing Program for the Houston Police Department and that authorization be given to issue a purchase order to the State contract supplier, Promaxima Manufacturing, LTD.
Since December 8, 2015, the Strategic Procurement Division has issued two purchase orders to Promaxima Manufacturing, LTD totaling $34,800.00. With the issuance of this purchase order, the aggregate total to Promaxima Manufacturing, LTD will be $74,884.75 and therefore, requires City Council approval.
This purchase consists of fitness equipment which will be used to replace existing equipment located at the 51 Riesner Central Police Complex. This fitness equipment has lasted beyond its useful life. The existing equipment is approximately 25 years old and requires continual repairs. While functional, it's obsolete by today's standards.
The new equipment will provide improved biomechanical performance. The department will be replacing 20 pieces of fitness equipment. The normal useful life of the equipment is 15 to 20 years depending on maintenance. The warranty for the equipment is five (5) years and one (1) year for the upholstery.
Sections 271.081 through 27.083 of the Texas Local Government Code provide the legal authority for local governments to participate in the State of Texas Purchasing Program.
Hire Houston First:
This procurement is exempt from the City's Hire Houston First Ordinance. Bids were not solicited because the department is utilizing a Cooperative Purchasing Agreement for this purchase.
