Finnigan Park is a 19.071-acre City of Houston park located at 4900 Providence Street. Park amenities include a community center building with indoor gym, meeting room and weight room, playground, lighted tennis courts, lighted sports field, 0.65-mile trail and swimming pool.
County Commissioners and City Council approved the original agreement in 1996. The First Amendment to extend the agreement to December 31, 2015 was approved in 2005. The agreement authorizes Harris County to operate, maintain and repair the park except for the swimming pool. The agreement also authorizes the County to provide educational, social and health programs in the Park and the Community Center.
Commissioner El Franco Lee conceived the idea to create a multi-purpose facility that provides a variety of health, social and recreational services to people of all ages. Harris County Precinct One staff work alongside Houston Parks and Recreation Department staff to provide these services. To continue this successful partnership, the City and the County now wish to extend the agreement 30 years to December 31, 2045. All other terms and conditions of the original agreement will remain in full force and effect.
Council approval is recommended.
