Adopt an Ordinance approving a Funding Agreement with Crime Stoppers of Houston and the City of Houston in the amount of $250,000.
Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization dedicated to public safety and since 1981 remains committed to its mission to solve and prevent serious crime in the City of Houston. Through close collaboration with the citizens of Houston and the local law enforcement agencies including the Houston Police Department (HPD), Crime Stoppers has successfully assisted local law enforcement in solving over 30,000 felony cases and arresting nearly 25,000 felony fugitives through its 713-222-TIPS Tip Line Program.
Crime Stoppers plans to build a permanent structure to house its operations which will include workspace and facilities for HPD personnel assigned to work and coordinate with Crime Stoppers. The City desires to provide $250,000 to Crime Stoppers in furtherance of this collaboration and the mutual interest of the parties to support law enforcement in protecting the citizens in the Houston area. Crime Stoppers will use the funds to support design and construction of workspace within the new Crime Stoppers facility to be used by assigned HPD personnel.
