Summary:

RECOMMENDATION from Director Department of Public Works & Engineering for approval of final contract amount of $1,584,232.34 and acceptance of work on contract with GRAVA, LLC for Fire Hydrant Replacement - 1.11% over the original contract amount and under the 5% contingency amount (WA11128)

Background:

SUBJECT:  Accept Work for Fire Hydrant Replacement, Grava, LLC, WBS No. S-000035-0191-4.  

 

RECOMMENDATION:  (Summary)  Pass a motion to approve the final contract amount of $1,584,232.34 or 1.11% over the original contract amount, and under the 5 % contingency amount, accept the work, and authorize final payment.  

 

PROJECT NOTICE/JUSTIFICATION: This project was required to replace damaged or irreparable fire hydrants throughout the City.  

 

DESCRIPTION/SCOPE: This project consisted of the replacement of fire hydrants and valves, the height correction of fire hydrants, and the relocation of fire hydrants and ancillary work.  The project was awarded to Grava, LLC with an original contract amount of $1,566,803.50. The Notice to Proceed date was 04/15/2013 and the project had 365 calendar days for completion.   

 

LOCATION:  The work performed under the contract included all locations within all Council Districts.   

CONTRACT COMPLETION AND COST:  The Contractor, Grava, LLC, has completed the work under the contract. The final cost of the project, including overrun and underrun of estimated bid quantities is $1,584,232.34 an increase of $17,428.84 or 1.11% over the original contract amount.  

 

M/WSBE PARTICIPATION:  The MWBE goal for this project was 20%.  According to Office of Business Opportunity, the actual participation was 26.05%.  The contractor was awarded an “Outstanding” rating.

Amount of Funding:

No additional funding is required.

 

Original appropriation of $1,670,144.00 from the Water and Sewer System Consolidated Construction Fund No. 8500.
