The Bayou Greenway 2020 consists of the acquisition, design, and construction of connector trails and related greenways along nine bayous, resulting in approximately 160 miles of interconnected hike and bike trails and greenways throughout the city and impacting every council district. The project will be completed in multiple phases over multiple bayous according to an approved project schedule. All construction plans and trails alignment and design of trails-related facilities are subject to Houston Parks and Recreation Department approval.
The $19.8 million is the FY 16 installment of the public commitment and will be paid in installments as the projects are bid. The public commitment schedule of funding is in the City of Houston’s Capital Improvement Plan.
The City of Houston agreed to a public commitment of $100 million in bond proceeds approved by voters through Proposition B in November 2012. The commitment is based on the understanding that it will be matched with a private commitment of $105 million in funding secured by the Houston Parks Board. Land acquisitions, design of trails and related facilities will be funded using the Private Commitment. Construction of trails and related facilities will be funded using the Public Commitment.
