Summary:

RECOMMENDATION from Director General Services Department for approval of final contract amount of $224,878.96 and acceptance of work on contract with AIA GENERAL CONTRACTORS, INC for Remediation, Removal and Installation of Underground Storage Tanks at Fire Station No. 19 for the Houston Fire Department - 4.05% under the original contract amount  DISTRICT B - DAVIS

Background:

SPECIFIC EXPLANATION: The General Services Department recommends that City Council approve the final contract amount of $224,878.96 or 4.05% under the original contract amount, accept the work and authorize final payment to AIA General Contractors, Inc. for remediation, removal and installation of underground storage tanks (UST) at Fire Station No. 19 for the Houston Fire Department.

PROJECT LOCATION:     1811 Gregg Street, Houston, Texas (Key Map 494-E)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project removed two 1,000 gallon fiberglass reinforced, single wall gasoline USTs along with associated lines, observation wells, manholes and other ancillary equipment, and installed one 5,000 gallon gasoline, double-wall fiberglass reinforced plastic, two compartment UST. The work also disposed of aqueous liquid, replaced concrete pavement, waste classification, loading, hauling and disposed of debris generated as a result of all activities.

CONTRACT COMPLETION AND COST: The contractor completed the project within the original contract time of 180 days. The final cost of the project including Change Orders is $224,878.96, a decrease of $9,495.04 below the original contract amount.  The project was under budget because the underground contamination quantities were less than the estimated quantities.

PREVIOUS CHANGE ORDER: Change Order No. 1 replaced the existing fuel force system with a new automated fuel management system along with cabling and connectors; replaced subsurface piping with two vapor spill buckets for the diesel and gasoline fuel tanks; and replaced the existing stingers on the submersible pumps with stainless steel. Change Order No. 2 provided credits to the City for materials and work not required to complete the project.
