SPECIFIC EXPLANATION: The General Services Department recommends that City Council award a construction contract to Level Infrastructure, LLC on its low bid amount of $951,750.00 to provide construction services for Braeburn Glen Park and Haden Park for the Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD).
Braeburn Glen Park is adjacent to Fire Station No. 68. The Houston Fire Department (HFD) proposed to expand the parking lot for Fire Station No. 68 but there was no space available within the fire station property for the expansion. Therefore, HPARD agreed to transfer approximately 0.2125 acres of Braeburn Glen Park to HFD to facilitate the parking lot expansion. In accordance with Chapter 26 of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Code, on May 14, 2014, Ordinance No. 2014-466, City Council held a public hearing and approved the permanent taking of a portion of the park for the project. On June 17, 2015, Ordinance No. 2015-601, City Council appropriated $3,164,553.36 out of the Fire Consolidated Construction Fund for construction services for various fire department projects. Of this amount, $98,950 was allocated to Fire Station No. 68 for expansion of the parking lot. In consideration for the transfer of a portion of Braeburn Glen Park for the parking lot expansion, HFD will improve the park through funding the construction of a new sidewalk entry from the park parking lot.
