RECOMMENDATION: (i) Approve and Authorize a Purchase and Sale Agreement between Midtown Redevelopment Authority, seller, and City of Houston, purchaser, for approximately 2.334 acres (101,978) square feet of vacant land, Parcel HY25-002; (ii) appropriate funds for the acquisition, surveying, plating, and environmental review of Parcel HY25-002 for the Houston Fire Department (HFD).
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION: The General Services Division (GSD) recommends approval of a Purchase and Sale Agreement and approval and authorization for all costs and services required for the acquisition of Parcel HY25-002 to replace the current Fire Station 40. The property is situated within the existing service area, outside of the 100-year and 500-year floodplains, and approximately two miles from the current Fire Station 40, located on the south side of Old Spanish Trail between Blythewood Street and Calhoun Road.
The Board of Directors of the Midtown Redevelopment Authority has agreed to sell Parcel HY25-002 for a total of $600,000.00, which is the 2014 purchase price of $495,000.00 and $105,000.00 for maintenance/holding costs since acquisition.
Fire Station 40 currently does not meet HFD standards. The current Fire Station 40 is located less than one mile from Brays Bayou and is within the 100-year flood plain.
Therefore, GSD recommends that City Council approve a Purchase and Sale Agreement with the Midtown Redevelopment Authority and appropriate $600,000.00 for the land acquisition and $60,000 for professional services related to the land acquisition for Parcel HY25-002.
PROPERTY LOCATION: South side of Old Spanish Trail between Blythewood Street and Calhoun Road.
