ORDINANCE amending ARTICLE X, CHAPTER 2 AND ARTICLE VIII, CHAPTER 33 OF THE CODE OF ORIDNANCE, HOUSTON, TEXAS, relating to the definition and application of covered persons, expanding such definition to include Super Neighborhood Council Members and Super Neighborhood Alliance Members; containing findings and other provisions relating to the foregoing subject; providing for severability |
| | | | | | | | Background:
The City Attorney recommends City Council approve an ordinance amending Article X, Chapter 2 and Article VIII, Chapter 33 of the City Code. If approved, this code amendment would include members of Super Neighborhood Councils as well as members of the Super Neighborhood Alliance as covered under the City’s indemnity and defense provisions when in attendance at and in their capacity as a member of a Super Neighborhood meeting for their respective council or for the Alliance.
This change to the City Code stems from the idea that members of these Councils and the Alliance are similar to the memberships of City boards and commissions in that they are volunteer representatives that contribute significantly to the shaping and implementation of public policy, fostering of meaningful civil engagement, and delivery of vital municipal services.
