Specific Explanation:
The Director of Houston Public Works (HPW) and the Chief Procurement Officer recommend that City Council approve an award to Southern Ionics, Incorporated, on its low bid meeting specifications in an amount not to exceed $8,867,905.00, for the supply of sodium bisulfite for HPW. This award is for a thirty-six (36) month period, with two (2) one (1) year options to extend.
This award consists of sodium bisulfite chemicals, which will be utilized daily at the City’s wastewater treatment plants. The sodium bisulfite is used to dechlorinate wastewater effluent prior to discharge into the area bayous and streams. Sodium Bisulfite is also used in wastewater operations' chlorine scrubber systems to prevent accidental chlorine release from the City's wastewater treatment plants and satellite facilities, as required by Federal and State regulations to preserve and protect the health and safety of the citizens of Houston.
This Invitation to Bid was advertised in accordance with the requirements of the State of Texas bid laws, and as a result, two (2) bids were received as outlined below.
