RECOMMENDATION: Appropriate funds for the project.
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION: The General Services Department (GSD) recommends that City Council appropriate $3,900,000.00 out of the Police Consolidated Construction Fund to replace the existing utility service entrance and generators at the Westside Command Station for the Houston Police Department (HPD). The existing diesel emergency generators have exceeded their operational lifespan, and the necessary parts for repair and maintenance are no longer available. These generators support the Police Station, the fuel island, the vehicle maintenance garage, and the body shop.
GSD will utilize existing city-wide contracts to perform the work or coordinate with the City’s Strategic Procurement Division to procure installation services.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project includes, but is not limited to the installation of a new electrical transformer by CenterPoint Energy and the replacement of all power feeders, including the main electrical switchgear, and the emergency generator automatic transfer switch. The project will also replace the current diesel emergency generators with new natural gas emergency generators.
