SUBJECT: Approve an Ordinance Amending Section 40-3 of the City of Houston Code of Ordinances (“Code”) to remove the fee for individual residents to request new streetlights.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve an Ordinance amending Section 40-3 of the City of Houston Code of Ordinances (“Code”) to remove the fee for individual residents to request new streetlights.
PREVIOUS HISTORY AND SCOPE: The Code allows a resident to apply for a new streetlight in residential areas but requires the applicant to pay for the first year’s operating costs, generally about $200.00, prior to installation of ornamental standard type streetlights (a.k.a., metal pole streetlights).
SCOPE OF THIS AMENDMENT: Based on the advice of HPW, City Council finds it appropriate to amend Section 40-3 of the Code to eliminate the first year’s charge to residents for operating costs of new streetlights and to update the City Fee Schedule to reflect this change.
