Specific Explanation:
The chief of Information Officer recommends that City Council approve an ordinance to appropriate $520,000.00 from the Equipment Acquisition Consolidated Fund (1800) for the planned Public Printing Kiosks, New Digitalization Lab Equipment, Public Facing Computers, and Radio Frequency ID Technology. These projects are budgeted in the approved FY2023 Capital Improvement Plan adopted by City Council.

This purchase will replace the aging print-release system, and other hardware items needed to improve the customer service at the Houston Public Libraries. The purpose is to replace outdated RFID equipment that will improve customer experience when checking out and returning materials. The equipment will also increase the ability to inventory collections quickly and prevent thefts at the Houston Public Libraries. Existing contracts will be utilized for the purchase of hardware, software licensing, support, and maintenance, and the Enterprise Infrastructure Managed Services contracts for the professional services portion of this project.
Fiscal Note:
No significant Fiscal Operating impact is anticipated as a result of this project.
