Summary:

RECOMMENDATION from Director Houston Public Works for approval of final contract amount of $682,588.29 and acceptance of work on contract with CURRENT CONSTRUCTION INC for Safe Sidewalk Program, Package 2 - 28.13% under the original contract amount - DISTRICTS A - PECK; B - JACKSON; C - KAMIN and H - CISNEROS

Background:

SUBJECT:  Accept Work for Safe Sidewalk Program (Package 2).

 

RECOMMENDATION: (SUMMARY) Pass a motion to approve the final Contract Amount of $682,588.29 or 28.13% under the original Contract Amount, accept the Work and authorize final payment.

 

PROJECT NOTICE/JUSTIFICATION:  This project is part of the continuing effort by the City to construct request-based sidewalks throughout the City of Houston to meet the standards of its residents.

 

DESCRIPTION/SCOPE: The project provides for the construction of sidewalk improvements at various locations. Nedu Engineering Services designed the project with 169 calendar days allowed for construction. The project was awarded to Current Construction Inc. with an original Contract Amount of $949,767.20.

CONTRACT COMPLETION AND COST: The Contractor, Current Construction Inc., has completed the work under the subject contract. The project was completed beyond the established completion date with an additional 69 days approved by Change Order Nos. 1 and 4 through 8. The final cost of the project, including overrun and underrun of estimated unit price quantities and previously approved Change Order Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 8 is $682,588.29, a decrease of $267,178.91 or 28.13% under the original Contract Amount. Houston Public Works recommended termination of the contract in accordance with Article 14.2 of Document 00700 General Conditions, due to failure to provide services agreed to under the Contract.  The Contractor completed the necessary work per Surety obligations by the Performance and Payment Bonds. 

 

M/WSBE PARTICIPATION: No City M/WSBE participation goal was established for this project as the contract did not exceed the threshold of $1,000,000.00 required for a goal-oriented contract per Section 15-82 of the Code of Ordinances.
