The Fire Chief of the Houston Fire Department recommends that City Council approve to extend Injury on Duty Leave (Salary Continuation) for a classified member of the Houston Fire Department, Firefighter EMT Vincent Santos (Employee No. 156827).
Firefighter EMT Vincent Santos was injured on December 11, 2021, when he twisted his left knee while moving an empty 300-gallon liquid tank to reach a patient involved in a car crash.
Firefighter EMT Santos’ first 12-month period of injury leave will end on December 15, 2022. Pursuant to City Ordinance 14-226 (c), City Council, upon request of the department director. Human Resources Director, and the Mayor, may grant additional leaves of absence at full or reduced pay for a period not to exceed an additional 12-months, in increments of three (3) months.
Therefore, a request to grant additional leaves of absence at full or reduced pay for the following periods listed below or until Firefighter EMT Santos returns to full duty or is removed from active duty as a Firefighter/EMT, whichever occurs first, is hereby submitted:
· December 16, 2022 through March 15, 2023; $1,923.56
· March 16, 2023 through June 13, 2023; $1,880.81
· June 14, 2023 through September 11, 2023; $1,923.56
· September 12, 2023 through December 10, 2023; $1,914.90
In no event, shall the additional leaves of absence at full or reduced pay go beyond December 10, 2023.
Fiscal Note:
Funding for this item is included in the FY2023 Adopted Budget. Therefore, no Fiscal Note is required as stated in the Financial Policies.
