The Chief of Police for the Houston Police Department (HPD) recommends that City Council approve to extend Injury on Duty Leave (Salary Continuation) for a classified member of the Houston Police Department, Officer Anita Davis (Employee No. 165442).
Officer Anita Davis was injured on May 23, 2021 when she was involved in a motor vehicle accident. Officer Davis sustained major injuries to her head, neck, mid-back, low back and left thigh, which required extensive medical treatment and recovery time.
Officer Davis' first 12-month period of injury leave ended on May 23, 2022. Pursuant to City Ordinance 14-226 (c), the City Council approval is required to extend Officer Davis' injury leave for an additional 90 days. City Council approval is pending for the first 90-day extension that will expire on August 21, 2022. HPD is making a request for a second extension for the period of August 22, 2022 - September 1, 2022 that will result in a salary continuation of $744.98 during that period. Officer Davis returned to work on a full duty status as of September 2, 2022.
Fiscal Note:
Funding for this item is included in the FY 2023 Adopted Budget. Therefore, no Fiscal Note is required as stated in the Financial Policies.
