RECOMMENDATION: The General Services Department recommends approval of the final contract amount of $1,039,142.74 and acceptance of work on contract with Millis Development and Construction, LLC for Waldemar Park – 5% over the original contract amount.
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION: The General Services Department recommends that City Council approve the final contract amount of $1,039,142.74, accept the work and authorize final payment to Millis Development and Construction, LLC, for construction services in connection with Waldemar Park for the Houston Parks and Recreation Department.
PROJECT LOCATION: 11815 Waldemar Drive, Houston, TX 77077
PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS: The scope of work consisted of construction of a new concrete trail, new playground development with units for various age groups, swings and climbers, playground fall surface, concrete border and seatwalls; dog park with entry plaza, metal fence and gates; benches, picnic tables, trash receptacles, and drinking fountains; trees with associated irrigation, grading, drainage and detention.
Lauren Griffith, Inc. is the design consultant for this project.
CONTRACT COMPLETION AND COST: The contractor completed the project within 355 days: the original contract time of 210 days, plus 145 days approved by Change Orders. The final cost of the project including Change Orders is $1,039,142.74, an increase of $49,481.74 over the original contract amount.
PREVIOUS CHANGE ORDERS: Change Orders 1 and 2 provided and installed irrigation components to improve the old irrigation system; provided and installed enhanced gate hardware; power washed, primed and painted existing pavilion columns; provided filter fabric at playground; demolished and poured concrete sidewalk to meet ADA standards; provided and installed new drain inlet to reduce slopes; provided and applied anti-graffiti coating to seatwalls; provided and installed post to span gap at dog park fence, provided materials testing and engineering for services, added site supervision and day due to adjacent HPW utility project to conflicts.
M/WBE PARTICIPATION: No City MWBE participation goal was established for this project as the contract amount does not exceed the threshold of $1,000,000.00 required for goal-oriented contracts per section 15-82 of the City Code of Ordinances.
