Mayor Sylvester Turner, in cooperation with Council Member Edward Pollard, requests Council approval of an amendment to Chapter 2 of the City of Houston Code of Ordinances that will create and define the purpose, composition, and meetings of a Food Insecurity Board.
In recognition that food insecurity is a pressing and growing problem affecting over 738,000 Houstonians, the Administration and Council Member Pollard propose the creation of the Food Insecurity Board. The board will be responsible for advising and making recommendations to the Mayor, Council, and Department Directors to address issues pertaining to food insecurity based on a topic of study which will be assigned by the Mayor each year.
The Commission shall consist of 19 members, 10 of whom shall be Houston residents and the balance of whom shall be residents of the Greater Houston area. Members shall serve terms of 2 years.
It is recommended that Council approve this amendment to the Code of Ordinances.
