RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of a resolution authorizing the creation of the Sunnyside Redevelopment Authority
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION:
On November 10, 2015, by Ordinance No. 2015-1092, City Council approved the designation of Reinvestment Zone Number Twenty-Six, City of Houston, Texas (Sunnyside Zone). The Sunnyside Zone was created for the purpose of leveraging the expenditure of public funds for eligible projects including the planning, engineering and construction of new streets, water distribution facilities, wastewater collection facilities, storm drainage improvements, roadway and street reconstruction projects, cultural and public facility improvements, parks and other related improvements to facilitate residential and commercial development and redevelopment within in the Zone boundaries. On December 9, 2020, by Ordinance No. 2020-1052, City Council approved the project plan and reinvestment zone financing plan for the Sunnyside Zone (Project Plan).
Application has been made to City Council to approve the creation of the Sunnyside Redevelopment Authority (Authority) as a local government corporation pursuant to Chapter 394 of the Texas Local Government Code. The purpose of creating the Authority is to assist in the administration and management of the Sunnyside Zone and the implementation of the goals described in the Project Plan. The Board of Directors of the Sunnyside Zone will serve in corresponding positions as the Board of Directors of the Authority.
