Summary:

ORDINANCE appropriating $2,213,000.00 from Equipment Acquisition Consolidated Fund (1800) for the Removal and Replacement of End-of-Life Radio Infrastructure Equipment for Houston Information Technology Services and Various Other Departments

Background:
Ordinance appropriating $2,213,000.00 from the Equipment Acquisition Consolidated Fund for the removal and replacement of end-of-life radio infrastructure equipment for Houston Information Technology Services and various other departments.

SPECIFIC EXPLANATION:
The Chief Information Officer recommends that City Council approve an ordinance to appropriate $2,213,000.00 from the Equipment Acquisition Consolidated Fund (1800) for the removal and replacement of end-of-life radio infrastructure equipment supporting the City of Houston’s radio communications system. The following project is budgeted in the approved FY2022 Capital Improvement Plan adopted by City Council.

The project description with allocation is as follows:

This project allows for the purchase of public safety microwave backhaul radio equipment and installation services that directly supports the City’s public safety radio network. The existing microwave radios were deployed in 2009, reached end-of-life in 2016, and are now no longer supported. This appropriation will fund the removal and replacement of the outdated equipment. The existing agreement with Motorola, Inc. will be utilized to purchase the equipment and services for this project.

This item was presented to the Transportation, Technology & Infrastructure (TTI) Committee on December 2, 2021.

Fiscal Note:
