The Chief of Police for the Houston Police Department recommends that City Council approve an Ordinance to appropriate $585,000.00 from the Equipment Acquisition Consolidated Fund (1800) for the refresh of aging technology equipment for the Crime Analysis & Command Center.
Crime Analysis Integrated System WBS X-100035 $585,000.00
The Houston Police Department has software and equipment used by the Crime Analysis & Command Center in HPD's Department Operations Center and other areas that is over 10 years old. This software and equipment is lacking in functionality which limits the capabilities of the department to share information in a time efficient manner to HPD Command Staff monitoring and responding during events being held in the city, i.e. Super Bowl, presidential debates, basketball tournaments, major conventions, etc. The equipment is failing at an increasing rate as a result of its age and is very expensive to maintain and repair. In an effort to remain current with technology, HPD is requesting that funding be authorized to replace and enhance the software and hardware to better share critical information to HPD staff allowing the department to respond effectively to situations as they arise.
HPD has coordinated with the Strategic Purchasing Division to bring forward an additional council item for the purchase of this equipment.
Fiscal Note:
No significant Fiscal Operating impact is anticipated as a result of this project.
