The City of Houston Chief Recovery Officer and the Interim Director of Solid Waste Management Department recommend that City Council approve the interlocal agreement to coordinate efforts between the City of Houston and Harris County Flood Control District to remove silt and sediment from channels at the entrance to Lake Houston and areas within the lake south of the F.M. 1960 bridge crossing. Work to include development of a long range management plan for annual operations and maintenance of sand/sediment accumulation, coordination with canals, channels and boat dock owners, establishing dredging costs reimbursements (if any) and management of dredging activities including sand/sediment disposition.
The Harris County Flood Control District has authorized a maximum amount of $10 million through the Harris County 2018 Bond Program bond funds for these services. The term of this agreement is from the Date of Countersignature by both parties and will expire upon the date that de-silting operations are deemed completed by the City of Houston.
The City of Houston is responsible for managing all activities under this interlocal agreement and will be working with the vendor DRC under an existing contract for these services.
No Fiscal Note is required on grant items.
