Sole Source for N30034 – Approve the sole source purchase from Roche Diagnostics Corporation in the total amount of $111,991.20 for one (1) MagNA Pure 24 Instrument to run SARS-CoV-2 testing for the Houston Health Department.
Specific Explanation:
The Director of the Houston Health Department (HHD) and the Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) recommend that City Council approve the sole source purchase of one (1) MagNA Pure 24 Instrument from Roche Diagnostics Corporation in the total amount of $111,991.20 and that authorization be given to issue a purchase order for HHD.
The MagNA Pure 24 Instrument will allow HHD’s Bureau of Laboratory Services to perform nucleic acid extraction on all positive SARS-CoV-2 samples. This testing will be continual and ongoing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The purchase includes a service contract through December 17, 2029. Roche Diagnostics Corporation is the sole manufacturer, supplier, and distributor of the MagNA Pure 24 Instrument and has not authorized any third party to provide this product.
This recommendation is made pursuant to subsection 252.022(a)(7) of the Texas Local Government Code, which provides that "a procurement of items that are available from only one source..." is exempt from the competitive requirements for purchases.

Hire Houston First:
