The City has a contract with Denton Navarro Rocha Bernal & Zech, P.C. (“Firm”) countersigned August 16, 2017, with a maximum contract amount of $455,500 for professional legal services to represent the City in negotiation of the collective bargaining agreement between the City of Houston and the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association, also known as the International Association of Fire Fighters, AFL-CIO-CLC, Local Union 341 (“Local Union 341”) and related matters, and other legal services as the City Attorney requests.
The City is over a year into the litigation with Local Union 341 in Cause No. 2017-42885 in the 234th Judicial District Court of Harris County, Texas. The additional funding is necessary to cover the cost of the interlocutory appeal and potential mediation/negotiation costs that may be ordered by the Court. The additional funding will increase the maximum contract amount from $455,500 to $547,500, which amount represents an increase of $92,000.
Fiscal Note:
Funding for this item is included in the FY21 Adopted Budget. Therefore, no Fiscal Note is required as stated in the Financial Policies.
M/WBE Participation:
The M/WBE participation goal for the contract is 24%. To date, the Firm is achieving 16.18% participation, met by the certified firm of Callier Law Group PLLC. The Office of Business Opportunity will continue to monitor this contract to ensure maximum M/WBE participation.
