Summary:

RECOMMENDATION from Director Houston Public Works for approval of final contract amount of $2,341,988.65 and acceptance of work on contract with MCKINNEY CONSTRUCTION, INC for Water Line Replacement in Tanglewilde Area - 1.14% over the original contract amount DISTRICTS F - THOMAS and J - POLLARD

Background:

SUBJECT:  Accept Work for Water Line Replacement in Tanglewilde Area.

 

RECOMMENDATION: (SUMMARY) Pass a motion to approve the final Contract Amount of $2,341,988.65 or 1.14% over the original Contract Amount, accept the Work and authorize final payment.

 

PROJECT NOTICE/JUSTIFICATION: This project was part of the City’s Water Line Replacement Program and was required to replace and upgrade water lines within the City to increase availability of water, improve circulation and fire protection.  

DESCRIPTION/SCOPE: This project consisted of construction of approximately 29,170 linear feet of water lines (326 linear feet of 4-inch; 333 linear feet of 6-inch; 17,528 linear feet of 8-inch; 10,983 linear feet of 12-inch) and construction of service lines, fire hydrants, valves, fittings, connections, and appurtenances. Van De Wiele & Vogler, Inc. designed the project with 310 calendar days allowed for construction. The project was awarded to McKinney Construction, Inc. with an original Contract Amount of $2,315,662.92.

LOCATION: The project area is generally bound by Westheimer Road on the north, Richmond Avenue on the south, Dunvale Road on the east and Rocky Ridge on the west.

 

CONTRACT COMPLETION AND COST: The Contractor, McKinney Construction, Inc. has completed the work under the subject Contract. The project was completed within the original Contract time. The final cost of the project, including overrun and underrun of estimated unit price quantities is $2,341,988.65, an increase of $26,325.73 or 1.14% over the original Contract Amount and under 5% contingency amount. The increased cost is a result of the difference between planned and measured quantities.

 

M/WSBE PARTICIPATION: The advertised M/WBE contract goal for this project was 20.00%The M/WBE plan established for this project was 20.00%.  According to Office of Business Opportunity, the participation was 22.99%. Contractor’s M/WBE performance evaluation was rated Satisfactory.
