SUBJECT: An ordinance amending City of Houston Ordinance No. 2014-754 relating to membership of the Houston Transportation Accessibility Task Force.
RECOMMENDATION: (Summary)
Adopt an ordinance amending City of Houston Ordinance No. 2014-754, relating to membership of the Houston Transportation Accessibility Task Force.
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION:
On August 6, 2014, Council approved Ordinance 2014-754 that amended Chapter 46 of the Code of Ordinances. Included in that ordinance was the creation of a Houston Transportation Accessibility Task Force. The purpose of the Task Force is to study transportation needs of persons with disabilities, assess the number of wheelchair accessible vehicles-for-hire available for use, assess response times for wheelchair accessible vehicles, and provide recommendations on the availability of wheelchair accessible vehicles-for-hire.
The Task Force is currently comprised of 11 members and on alternate, with a majority of members from the disabilities community. It has now come to the Administration's attention that there is a need to add a position to the Task Force in order to ensure that a full range and diversity of perspectives are represented. Additional membership allows the makeup of the Task Force to better reflect the diversity of stakeholders in the community and the changing nature of the Transportation Network Company industry. Therefore, Council is being asked to amend Ordinance 2014-754 to add a position 12 to the Task Force.
