The Chief of Police for the Houston Police Department (HPD) recommends that City Council approve to extend Injury on Duty Leave (Salary Continuation) for classified member of the Houston Police Department, Officer Maryann Hrncir (Employee No. 098878).
Officer Hrncir was injured on November 16, 2018 when she was training a new K-9 officer. The dog pulled Officer Hrncir hard enough to cause her to fall and to be dragged onto the concrete ground. Officer Hrncir sustained a concussion with brief loss of consciousness, lacerations to the left hand and eye, and left shoulder and bilateral knee pain which required extensive medical treatment and recovery time.
Officer Hrncir’s first 12-month period of injury leave ends on November 16, 2019. Pursuant to City Ordinance 14-226 (c), City Council approval is required to extend Officer Hrncir’s injury leave for an additional 90 days, from November 17, 2019 – February 14, 2020 which will result in salary continuation of $10,727.25 during that period.
Fiscal Note:
Funding for this item is included in the FY2020 Adopted Budget. Therefore, no Fiscal Note is required as stated in the Financial Policies.
