Summary:

M2020-0010 RECOMMENDATION from Director Houston Public Works for approval of final contract amount of $3,142,704.81 and acceptance of work on contract with CAAN CONSTRUCTION SERVICES, INC for Water Line Replacement in Briar Court Area - 1.29% under the original contract amount - DISTRICT G - TRAVIS

Background:

SUBJECT: Accept Work for Water Line Replacement in Briar Court Area.

 

RECOMMENDATION: (SUMMARY) Pass a motion to approve the final Contract Amount of $3,142,704.81 or 1.29% under the original Contract Amount, accept the Work and authorize final payment.

PROJECT NOTICE/JUSTIFICATION: This project was part of the City’s Water Line Replacement Program and was required to replace and upgrade water lines within the City to increase availability of water, improve circulation and fire protection.

DESCRIPTION/SCOPE: This project consisted of approximately 45,835 linear feet of 4-inch, 6-inch, 8-inch, and 12-inch diameter water lines, valves and appurtenances. Charles D. Gooden Consulting Engineers, Inc. designed the project with 415 calendar days allowed for construction. The project was awarded to CAAN Construction Services, Inc. with an original Contract Amount of $3,183,888.00.

LOCATION: The project area is generally bound by Memorial and Beauregard Drives on the north, Westheimer Road on the south, Gessner Drive on the east and West Sam Houston Parkway on the west.

 

CONTRACT COMPLETION AND COST: The Contractor, CAAN Construction Services, Inc., has completed the work under the subject Contract. The project was completed within the original Contract time. The final cost of the project, including overrun and underrun of estimated unit price quantities is $3,142,704.81, a decrease of $41,183.19 or 1.29% under the original Contract Amount and under 5% contingency amount. The decreased cost is a result of the difference between planned and measured quantities.

 

M/WSBE PARTICIPATION: The advertised M/WBE contract goal for this project was 20.00%.  The M/WBE plan established for this project was 20.00%.  According to Office of Business Opportunity, the participation was 30.26%. Contractor’s M/WBE performance evaluation was rated Outstanding.
