Background:

SUBJECT:  Accept Work for Intersection Safe Sidewalk Program and Ramp Improvement.

 

RECOMMENDATION:  (SUMMARY) Pass a motion to approve the final contract amount of $719,116.33 or 3.41% under the total contract amount of $744,516.25, accept the work, and authorize final payment.

 

PROJECT NOTICE/JUSTIFICATION:  This project was part of the continuing effort by the City to construct request-based sidewalks throughout the City of Houston to meet the needs of its residence.

 

 DESCRIPTION/SCOPE:On June 7, 2017, under Ordinance No. 2017-0418 City Council approved the original contract. The project was designed by Edminster, Hinshaw, Russ and Associates, Inc. with 190 calendar days allowed for construction. The project was awarded to Kenall, Inc. with an original contract amount of $744,516.25.

CONTRACT COMPLETION AND COST: The contractor, Kenall, Inc. has completed the work under the subject Contract. The project was completed within the established completion date with an additional 161 days approved by Change Order Nos. 1 and 2. The final cost of the project, including previously approved Change Order Nos. 1 and 2 for items not included in the original contract is $719,116.33, a decrease of $25,399.92 or 3.41% under the original contract amount. The decreased cost is a result of the difference between planned and measured quantities.

 

M/WSBE PARTICIPATION:  No City M/WSBE participation goal was established for this project as the contract amount did not exceed the threshold of $1,000,000.00 required for a goal-oriented contract per Section 15-82 of the Code of Ordinances.
