RECOMMENDATION: The General Services Department recommends approval of final contract amount of $420,000.00 and acceptance of work on contract with McKenna Contracting, Inc., for Playground Fall Surface Replacements FY18 – 5% over the original contract amount and within the approved 5% contingency.
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION: The General Services Department recommends that City Council approve the final contract amount of $420,000.00 or 5% over the original contract amount, accept the work and authorize final payment to McKenna Contracting, Inc., for construction services relating to Playground Fall Surface Replacements for FY2018, for the Houston Parks and Recreation Department.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project removed existing fall surface material, filter fabric and drainage layer and replaced with new engineered wood fiber, filter fabric, gravel drainage layer and wear mats at the 17 park sites listed.
CONTRACT COMPLETION AND COST: The contractor completed the project within the original contract time of 20 days. The final cost of the project including Change Orders is $420,000.00, an increase of $20,000.00 over the original contract amount.
PREVIOUS CHANGE ORDERS: Change Order No. 1 provided and installed poured in place rubberized surfacing at Irvington Park, White (J.P.) Park and Stude Park; removed and disposed of concrete footers at Johnson (R.L. & Cora) Park, Houston Gardens Park, Delce (Catherine) Park and Madison (Cyril) Park; cored four weepholes in concrete border at Tanglewood Park; and installed additional pea gravel at Delce (Catherine) Park.
M/WBE PARTICIPATION: This contract is exempt from the M/WBE subcontracting provisions because the value of the contract did not exceed the threshold of $1 million required for a goal-oriented contract as provided in §15-82 of the Houston Code of Ordinances.
