RECOMMENDATION: De-appropriate/appropriate $534,000.00 for the project.
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION: A major renovation of Fire Station No. 67 was completed in July 2017, by Bartlett Cocke General Contractors, LLC, which included “drive-through” access for the emergency vehicles. The driveway entrance constructed on the west side from West Little York Street was built with a narrow entrance and a tight turning radius because of the constraints of the existing property. This tight turning radius requires the firefighters to execute a three-point turn to enter the station.
On February 22, 2017, by Ordinance No. 2017-99, Council approved the purchase of three tracts of land located on the east side of the fire station for the construction of an expanded driveway that will improve the “drive-through” access for the large apparatus to enter the fire station; thereby eliminating safety and traffic obstruction issues. The General Services Department (GSD) In-house Renovation Group will perform the proposed work.
Remaining funds from the construction phase of the renovation of the fire station, (previously appropriated by Ordinance No. 2015-0418, adopted May 6, 2015) and the remaining funds from the land purchase will be utilized for the construction of the new driveway. Therefore, GSD recommends that City Council de-appropriate $534,000.00 from the Fire Consolidated Construction Fund and appropriate an equivalent amount to the In-House Renovation Revolving Fund for the project.
