The Fire Chief recommends the approval of the following amendments to the Classified Personnel Ordinance.
The implementation of Proposition B will place a financial hardship on the City requiring a reduction in force. The number of authorized positions covered by the Classified Personnel Ordinance will be amended as follows effective July 1, 2019:

*Present Authorized Positions exceed actual head count in these jobs. Many of these positions are vacant and are not budgeted. As of March 18, 2019: Firefighter, Prob.: 338 (337 vacant; 1 filled). Firefighter: 2146 (346 vacant; 1800 filled).
**Minimum positions required by Ordinance 5198 (1950 Referendum). Firefighter, Prob. positions are not expected to be filled/budgeted in Fiscal Year 2020.

Please note that the overall impact of a vote in favor of this item is a reduction of listed positions and a layoff of 220 firefighters.
