City Council approve an ordinance, pursuant to Section 9.005(b) of the Texas Local Government Code, declaring the adoption of Houston City Charter amendments approved by a majority of qualified voters at the special elections held on November 6, 2018.
In Ordinance No. 2018-0644, passed and approved on August 15, 2018, City Council ordered a special election be held on November 6, 2018, for the purposes of submitting to the qualified voters of the City of Houston, Texas a proposition (“City of Houston Proposition A”) to amend the City Charter to provide for a dedicated pay-as-you-go funding source to enhance, improve, and renew the City’s drainage systems and streets. In Ordinance No. 2018-0610, passed and approved on August 8, 2018, City Council ordered a special election be held on November 6, 2018, for the purposes of submitting to the qualified voters of the City of Houston, Texas, a proposition (“City of Houston Proposition B”) to amend the City Charter to require parity in the compensation provided to Houston Firefighters compared to the compensation provided to Houston Police Officers.
On November 6, 2018, a majority of the qualified voters of the City of Houston who voted in the elections approved City of Houston Proposition A and City of Houston Proposition B. On November 19, 2018, City Council tabulated the votes and canvassed the returns of the City of Houston special elections held on November 6, 2018.
It is recommended that City Council approve the proposed ordinance to comply with the requirements of Texas Local Government Code Section 9.005(b).
