RECOMMENDATION from Director Houston Public Works for approval of final contract amount of $1,580,077.85 and acceptance of work on contract with TEGRITY CONTRACTORS, INC for Fire Hydrant Replacement Project - 4.02% under the original contract amount  (WA11238)

Background:

SUBJECT:  Accept Work for Fire Hydrant Replacement Project, WBS No. S-000035-0236-4, File No. WA 11238

 

RECOMMENDATION: (Summary)

Pass a motion to approve the final contract amount of $1,580,077.85 or 4.02% under the original contract amount, accept the work, and authorize final payment.

 

SPECIFIC EXPLANATION:

PROJECT NOTICE/JUSTIFICATION:  Under this project, the contractor provided a work order based installation of damaged or irreparable fire hydrants throughout the City.

 

DESCRIPTION/SCOPE: This project provided for the replacement of fire hydrants and valves, the height correction of fire hydrants, and the relocation of fire hydrants and ancillary work. The project was awarded to Tegrity Contractors, Inc. with an original contract amount of $1,646,248.15.  The Notice to Proceed date was 07/05/16 and the project had 365 calendar days for completion. 

 

LOCATION:   The work performed under the contract included locations within Council Districts A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J and K.

 

CONTRACT COMPLETION AND COST:  The contractor Tegrity Contractors, Inc, has completed the work under the contract within the contract time.  The final cost of the project, including overrun and underrun of estimated bid quantities is $1,580,077.85, a decrease of $66,170.30 or 4.02% under the original contract amount.

 

MWBE PARTICIPATION: The contract MBE and WBE Goals were 12% and 8% respectively.  The contractor’s proposed M/WSBE Goals were 12% MBE, 7% WBE and 4% SBE.  According to Office of Business Opportunity, the actual participation was 15.68%.  The contractor was awarded an “Unsatisfactory” rating.
