The Chief of Police for the Houston Police Department requests City Council to approve a motion for the extension of injury leave of Officer Edgar Dejesus.
Officer Dejesus was injured on May 20, 2017 during his attempt to apprehend a combative suspect. He sustained injuries to his right shoulder and right upper arm. Officer Dejesus was approved for Injury on Duty Leave and was taken off active duty for extensive medical treatment and recovery.
Officer Dejesus’ first 12-month period of injury leave ends on May 20, 2018. Pursuant to City Ordinance 14-226(c), City Council approval is required to extend Officer Dejesus’ injury leave for an additional 90 days, from May 21, 2018 – August 18, 2018, which will result in salary continuation of $9,417.98 during that period.
Funding for this item is included in the FY2019 Adopted Budget. Therefore, no Fiscal Note is required as stated in the Financial Policy Ord. 2014-1078.
