Background:

Subject: Motion to extend unpaid leave of absence for Peggy Jackson, Utility Worker

 

RECOMMENDATION: (Summary) Approve the motion to extend unpaid leave of absence for Peggy Jackson, Utility Worker.

 

SPECIFIC EXPLANATION:

 

The Houston Public Works requests City Council to approve a motion to extend the unpaid leave of absence for Peggy Jackson, Utility Worker, Employee# 116134, beginning January 8, 2018 until June 25, 2018. 

 

Ms. Jackson has a medical condition that has prevented her return to work. We received documentation on January 18, 2018 stating the employee was unable to perform her work duties. Therefore, on April 2, 2018 the department requested a Medical Separation, and on June 26, 2018 the Municipal Civil Service Commission ruled to medically separate her employment from the City of Houston. Ms. Jackson was approved by the Municipal Civil Service Commission for two 90-day unpaid Leave of Absence from July 10, 2017 through October 8, 2017 and October 9, 2017 through January 7, 2018.

 

In accordance with Code of Ordinances 14-172, any further unpaid leaves of absence must be approved by City Council. Therefore, the department requests that City Council approve an extended unpaid leave of absence from January 8, 2018 through June 25, 2018.
