Formal Bids Received February 1, 2018 for S73-S26396 - Approve an award to Kinetic Motorwerks, LLC (Bid No. 1) in the amount not to exceed $477,475.00 for gelled electrolyte cell batteries for Houston Public Works.
Specific Explanation:
The Director of Houston Public Works and the Chief Procurement Officer recommend that City Council approve an award to Kinetic Motorwerks, LLC (Bid No. 1) on its low bid in the amount not to exceed $477,475.00 for gelled electrolyte cell batteries for Houston Public Works and that authorization be given to make purchases, as needed, for 36-month period, with two one-year options. This award provides for the purchase of gelled electrolyte cell batteries designed to store clean pure energy from the sun by means of charging through solar panels. The stored energy in the batteries will be used by the City of Houston to power flashing school zone beacons and two-way communication between the beacon and control station. The batteries will benefit the City of Houston by providing a reduced energy cost savings through harnessing the sun's energy. This would, in turn help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This project was advertised in accordance with the requirements of the State of Texas bid laws. Nine prospective bidders downloaded the solicitation document from SPD's e-bidding website, and seven bids were received as outlines below:
