The Houston Fire Department recommends that City Council adopt an ordinance appropriating $2,187,000.00 from the FY 2018 Equipment Acquisition Consolidated Fund for purchase of capital equipment to be used by the Houston Fire Department.
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION:
The Fire Chief recommends that City Council adopt an Ordinance authorizing the appropriation of $2,187,000.00 from the FY 2018 Equipment Acquisition Consolidated Fund for the purpose of capital equipment items for HFD as approved in the FY2018 Equipment Acquisition Plan. The Appropriation ordinance is required to provide funding for the purchase of capital equipment by utilizing current City contract agreements or issue a purchase order for purchases under $50,000.00
Rescue Boat Motors: Need to replace two rescue boat motors that lock in the upright position causing loss of control of the boat. The newer motors do not have this malfunction.
Hydraulic Stretchers (includes all accessories and XPS option): These innovative battery powered stretchers raise and lower patients using a touch button system which dramatically reduces strenuous lifting and reduces the risk of back injury.
Stair Chairs: This new EZ Glide w/track Stair chair glides patient loads up to 500 lb. down stairs without carrying or lifting. Its one-inch track-to-ground clearance and front swivel wheels provide superior maneuverability over carpet and confined spaces such as stair landings.
Stretcher Power Load System w/installation: The Power Load cot fastener system lifts and lowers the cot into and out of the ambulance, spinal loads and reduce the risk of paramedic cumulative trauma injuries.
Body Armor-Galls SE LVL IIIA: Ballistic protection worn to protect Houston Arson Bureau investigators while apprehending suspects of arson.
Helmet-Bul-USRX Search and Rescue Goggles: Head, neck, and eye protection worn by Arson investigators when processing a structural fire scene.
Full Mask Respirator: Respiratory protection against airborne contaminants or hazardous waste worn while processing a fire scene.
Respirator Cartridge: Replacement cartridge/filter for the full mask respirator.
5-inch hose and Adapters: Water supply hose used for firefighting to be equipped on 10 reserve pumpers.
SCBA Compressors: System used to provide breathing air while firefighting for Fire Station#11 and #64 replacements.
Bunker Gear: HFD replaces a portion of its bunker gear each year due to mandatory retirement from age, excessive wear or damage of gear. This request is to replace 900 pairs of bunker gear pants at $707.00 each and 900 Bunker Gear Coats at $1,070.78.
