SPECIFIC EXPLANATION: The General Services Department recommends that City Council approve the final contract amount of $1,219,258.00 or 9.9% over the original contract amount, accept the work and authorize final payment to Gadberry Construction Company, Inc. for construction services in connection with Metropolitan Multi-Service Center for the Houston Parks and Recreation Department.
PROJECT LOCATION: 1475 West Gray Street (Key Map No.492Q)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The scope of work included demolition of the front entry portal, concrete pavers and service drive; constructed a new entry canopy for passenger unloading; provided new concrete paving and driveway; installed a covered sidewalk to West Gray METRO drop-off; provided lighting for the canopy/walkway; detention; and tree planting with associated irrigation.
White Oak Studio was the design consultant for this project.
CONTRACT COMPLETION AND COST: The contractor completed the project within 247 days: the original contract time of 180 days, plus 67 days approved by Change Orders. The final cost of the project including Change Orders is $1,219,258.00, an increase of $110,795.00 over the original contract amount.
PREVIOUS CHANGE ORDERS: Change Orders 1-6 installed additional concrete accessibility ramps at the rear entries of the facility; modified the canopy walkway into a bus shelter at the METRO bus stop; installed a 7’ tall wooden fence on the westside of the parking area; installed a new canopy on the building’s north entry for facility users; replaced an additional 600 sq. ft. of concrete driveway to reduce steep grades in the driveway area; installed additional light transformers and fixtures for new canopy / walkway; replaced 102’ of the driveway entry curb and gutter to prevent ponding of runoff in main driveway; installed new up lighting into tree at main entry; and added non-compensable days to the contract due to inclement weather.
CONSTRUCTION GOALS: The contract contained an 18% MBE goal and a 10% WBE goal. According to the Office of Business Opportunity, the contractor achieved 30% MBE participation and 5.24% WBE participation and was assigned an outstanding rating.
