RECOMMENDATION: (Summary) Approve the motion to extend unpaid leave of absence for Anthony Julien, Sr. Utility Mechanic.
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION: The Department of Public Works & Engineering requests City Council to approve a motion to extend the unpaid leave of absence for Anthony Julien, Senior Utility Mechanic, Employee #150451, beginning November 15, 2016, and continuing until November 28, 2016.
Mr. Julien had a medical condition that prevented his return to work starting from June 22, 2016 until November 28, 2016. Mr. Julien's Leave of Absence was approved by the Municipal Civil Service Commission on September 12, 2017 for both 55-day and 90-day unpaid leave of absence extending from June 22, 2016 through August 15, 2016. On Tuesday, August 16, 2016, Mr. Julien attended Worker Compensation Training. Starting from August 17, 2016 through November 14, 2016, the employee was on unpaid status for 90 days.
In accordance with Code of Ordinances 14-172, any further unpaid leaves of absence must be approved by the City Council. Therefore, the department requests that City Council approve an extended unpaid leave of absence from November 15, 2016 through November 28, 2016. The employee returned to duty on November 29, 2016.
